Yanchep National Park – Kangaroos and Koalas Spotting

Yanchep National Park was in our Must-Visit/To-Do list during our WA visit. However, it won’t be wrong if I say that our trip to Yanchep was somewhat accidental. In fact, on the said day, we planned to visit strawberry farms for strawberries picking. The farms were relatively far, out-of-the-way and at an hour drive from Perth. Our bad luck, when we reached there, we were told that farms remain close during weekdays for public strawberry picking and open on weekends only. An hour one-way drive in an isolated  and deserted area was apparently wasted :/. We, three friends with our families, immediately discussed for an alternate and all agreed to go to Yanchep park as it was nearest amongst our all other Must-Visit destinations.

Western Australia Museum Perth

Apart from natural wonders, I am always fascinated towards museums. A trip to a museum is a good way to know about that country’s history, culture and other noticeable stuff in a short duration. So how could I miss WA museum in Perth during my two weeks visit of Western Australia? Western Australia Perth Museum is near to Perth CBD. The State Library of Western Australia, Art Gallery of Western Australia and the museum all are in close proximity and are at walking distance to each other. So I planned to visit all these three places in one go.

Cape Leeuwin & Lighthouse – Where Two Oceans Meet

After visiting Busselton Jetty and Lake Cave in Margaret River, Cape Leeuwin was our last destination of the day. We intended to climb up to the top of Cape Leeuwin lighthouse but we couldn’t catch the last tour as we were few minutes late. So we had to remain contended on strolling  around the ground. I have to say that Australia is bit expensive for tourism. I mean, they were charging 8 AUD per head just to let one move around the lighthouse and it becomes a reasonable amount for a family of four. But I also have to admit that the views of the expanse were breathtaking.

Busselton Jetty – The Longest Timber Piled Jetty in the Southern Hemisphere

Busselton Jetty is one of major tourist attractions in Western Australia. According to Busselton Jetty official website, it’s construction began in 1865 with original length of mere 161 m. Extensions were made to Jetty with the passage of time which eventually resulted in total length of 1.8 km making it the longest timber-piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere. During our day trip of exploring Margaret River region in WA, Busselton Jetty was our first stop.

Lake Cave – Margaret River

Exploring Margaret River region of Western Australia was a must-do-thing in our plans of Perth visit. Since it was around 300 km away from Perth, our initial idea was to do an overnight trip. Our mistake – we didn’t realize that it was a long weekend on our planned dates as country was celebrating Queen Elizabeth’s birthday and it was a public holiday in addition to routine weekend off days. So when we started our search of hotels few days prior to our trip, we found out that all hotels are almost fully booked and there is no chance of reserving two rooms for two families (mine and my friend’s) in a hotel. Determined in our intentions, we started thinking: can we do it in one day considering that we are travelling with kids? and that we want to visit Busselton Jetty, exploring Lake Cave and Light House at Cape Leeuwin in Margaret River area?
